Future Leaders Innovator Award 2010

The winner of the 2010 Future Leaders Innovator Award is Hugh Duffie from Toowoomba in Queensland.

Hugh Duffie, aged 18, is responsible for Earth Unplugged, Queensland’s First Carbon Positive Music Festival which was held in Queens Park, Toowoomba on 11 July. Hugh said that attendances exceeded expectation and that he was very happy with the feedback and positive vibe that Earth Unplugged created. ‘We managed to involve about 70 volunteers on the day and were proud to offer a free stall holding opportunity for local environmental groups. There are strong calls for it to become an annual event.’

A committed ‘climate-change activist’, Hugh Duffie reflecting on the event said, ‘It was really great to be able to get the message across in song which is exactly what the whole day is about.’

Last year Hugh Duffie was a winner of a Future Leaders Climate Change Writing Award. His writing is published in Future Justice (Future Leaders 2010).

The Future Leaders Innovator Award recognises young people who create new ways of achieving positive change and inspiring others. It is part of the Future Leaders Awards program.
